I've been Taged!!!

So, I have been tagged by Nick and have been charged with telling you 8 tings about myself. So, here it goes:

1. I have the smallest Italian family in history. My family consists of my parents, my brother, and two sets of aunts and uncles (one on my dad's side and one on my mother's).

2. I enjoy driving and can't stand being a passenger. I assume this goes back to my basic need to be in control of situations.

3. I have been playing drums since I was in fourth grade. I have met some of my best friends through both drums and bands. (Nick was a friend of another drummer when I met him)

4. I love the outdoors, although I don't get out there enough. At one time, when I was in high school, I wanted to become a white water rafting guide.

5. I used to live in Las Vegas and became pretty good at poker. One of my last weeks that I lived out there, I sat down at a table with $100 and walked away 3 hours later with $410. It's too bad I can't always make $100 an hour.

6. I only had 3 girl friends before I met my wife.

7. I have received two speeding tickets for going in excess of 90 miles per hour.

8. My dad has come to me asking for computer help even though he works in the computer industry and has since the Vietnam War.

So, there it is, 8 things you all know about me that you didn't before. I now have to tag someone else. Unfortunately, I don't know many other bloggers, yet, so I only have my wife to tag. If anyone else wants to be tagged, feel free to tag your self in the comments.

My start in HTML

So I started my step into html today. I found a web site that is walking me through it. It seems to be really easy, as long as you can keep track of the different commands. I figured learning html would be a good starting place. I would eventually like to learn css, but didn't want to jump off the deep end. CSS looks quite a bit more difficult that html. My bet is that CSS will be out dated by the time I get around to learning it, but oh well.

Scooter gets out of Prison

I love our country and our government, but one part of it that I can not stand is presidential pardons and commutes. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's prison sentence was commuted (is that the right word form?) by President Bush on Monday. What this shows me is that providing you are lying to protect the president's or vice-president's illegal doings, you are free to lie to the people of your country. There have been many doings of our president that I have disagreed with, but this I think ranks number two (domestic warrant-less wire tapping tops the list). Our president's actions trumped the justice system. Scooter was found guilty, and will not go to prison. Just for clarification for everyone, a commute differs from a pardon by not clearing the person's record, but just getting them out of the jail time. Libby's actions put a CIA operative and any one "employed" buy the front company she used at risk, and disrupted any missions those people were currently involved in. At least none of those operatives had to pay the ultimate sacrifice for Libby's political agenda.

Opera Mini Update

So I have been using Opera Mini for about two weeks now. I have few complaints about it. The only major complaint, which may be with my cell provider and not Opera, is that they have 9 different network setups. When the user prompts it to, Opera Mini does an auto optimization test, but I'm not quite sure what that does. For whatever reason, when I'm at work, I have to run this test up to 4 times a day. This will happen when I move from the south end of the building to the north end. I have a feeling that I am between two towers, but I don't know why I have to keep running this test. If I don't, the browser will be extremely slow, and sometimes won't load pages at all, but as soon as I run the test, I'm off and running like normal. But hey, a minor inconvenience for a great piece of FREE software.

City Life vs. Small Town Life

So I'm spending the weekend out at my dad's condo in Indiana. It's in a very small town with only two traffic lights. I didn't realize until this weekend how different life is in a town this small. For one, their entire police force is smaller than a single shift in the suburbs of a big city. The population of the town doubles on the weekends in the summer due to all the people that come and use the lake. I think everyone in town know each other.

The town had it's annual Mermaid Festival this weekend, and it was weird watching all the townies walk around. They are definitely a lot more laid back then the people who were in from larger towns and cities. There was a lot more common courtesy as we walked around then you would see in the city. As we walked by people, some of them would look and you and say hello, even though they didn't know you at all.

The weirdest thing of all, though, is the fact that the gas stations and the drug stores (CVS) were closed by 10 pm. Now, I know some gas stations and drug stores in urban areas are closed, but if you need something late a night, there is normally one open within 10-15 minutes from where you are. My dad sent me into town to grab gas for the boat and something from the drug store, and neither of us realised what time it was. When I came back empty handed, he started ranting on how he couldn't believe the gas station and drug store weren't 24 hours (my dad is kinda stubborn like that).

I wish I could take the convenience of city life and mix it with the laid back, friendly attitude of country life and Mikeatopia!! So, as me with as the new mayor and supreme ruler of Mikeatopia, I want to know what everyone else would like to see in my newly formed settlement.

Muskie Hunting

Short post today, as I went out fishing today. Before today, I had only caught one muskie in my life. Now, for most people, that's not too bad, but for the amount I have gone fishing, that is really pathetic. That all changed today, though, as I caught 2 within a few hours. Both were much bigger than the one I had caught a few years ago.

Last time I went out muskie fishing, I had no luck catching any muskie, but I did catch a very large bass. Now, the bass I caught would normally been a fun catch, but when you have it on the end of a muskie pole, it's not so fun. It's kind of like towing a car with a locomotive. But anyways, it's late and I will be up early and back out on the water. Catch ya all later.
